Senior Immigration Paralegal

Team Lead & Trainer — Remote — EOIR + USCIS + Federal Litigation (Bonus)

Cunha Law PLLC — a U.S. immigration law firm based in Washington, DC — is hiring a senior immigration paralegal to lead and train our paralegal team. This is a technical leadership and team-development role: you'll be the person who trains our paralegals, reviews the team's work, and makes sure every case leaves the office at the firm's standard — across both immigration court (EOIR / removal defense) and affirmative filings before USCIS.

We are not an immigration consultancy, and we don't compete with form-fillers. Every case at Cunha Law is handled as a real legal matter — eligibility analysis, case strategy, legal research, and attorney review before anything is filed. We compete with the top U.S. immigration firms, not with the paperwork mills. If that's the standard you want to build a team around, keep reading.

This is a role for someone who has real mileage and knows how to develop people. It is not an entry-level position. We're looking for someone with genuine U.S. immigration experience — comfortable both in the dynamics of immigration court and in assembling complex USCIS petitions — with the maturity to lead, train, and hold a team accountable.

What you'll do

Lead the paralegal team — assign cases, track the caseload, enforce deadlines, and make sure nothing is left looseTrain and develop the paralegals on both sides of the practice: affirmative immigration (USCIS) and removal defense (EOIR)Review the team's technical work (QA) — petitions, evidence packages, forms, and letters — before final attorney reviewStandardize processes, checklists, and SOPs to keep quality and technical consistency high across every caseDirectly handle and supervise the most complex cases (EOIR + USCIS), serving as the team's reference pointDraft and review declarations, memoranda, and responses to RFEs/NOIDs in clear, well-supported legal EnglishSet and enforce an English-first standard across the team's work product and internal communicationReport directly to the attorney on caseload status and team development, with disciplined management in Zoho (CRM + Projects)Note: this role is not client-facing. Your focus is the team, technical quality, and training — you work with the team and the attorney, not on the front line with clients.

Requisitos

~5 years of U.S. immigration experience — ideally spanning both immigration court (EOIR) and USCIS petitions, Federal court is highly desirable bonus.Experience leading, training, or supervising paralegals or a technical team (even informally — we want to see that you've developed people and raised a team's standard)Fluent English — written and spoken — is essential and non-negotiable. You'll review and train legal-English work product and set the team's English standard.Spanish is a strong plus — a Spanish-speaker can also take on Spanish-language cases directly, which adds real value to the role. Portuguese is a nice bonus but not required.Command of the core USCIS forms and processes (I-130, I-485, I-765, N-400, I-589, visa petitions) and familiarity with removal-proceeding dynamicsAbsolute rigor with deadlines, organization, and ownership that doesn't get passed offAble to work 100% remote on U.S. business hours (Washington, DC time zone), following the U.S. calendar
