Project Financial Controller (Project Accountant)
Fixed-Term Contract – 18 Months
Location: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (Initially remote, transitioning to project office)
Language Requirements: Bilingual English & Portuguese
Job Summary
Our client, a leading International Sports Marketing Firm, is supporting multiple high-profile projects connected to the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027. They are seeking an experienced Project Financial Controller / Project Accountant to play a critical role in the financial delivery of these projects.
This role partners closely with Project leadership to ensure robust financial control, accurate budgeting, profitability analysis, and full compliance with local legal and tax requirements. You will provide both commercial and operational finance support while coordinating with international finance teams and local professional advisors.
Key Responsibilities
Project Financial Management
- Maintain and control client budgets, including detailed reporting and variance analysis
- Monitor project financial performance and profitability across individual project elements
- Track and report budget status for internal management and group reporting
- Produce sensitivity and scenario analysis as required by senior leadership
Commercial & Operational Support
- Provide ongoing commercial finance support to Project Managers and Project Directors
- Interpret and apply commercial terms within client and supplier contracts
- Oversee client invoicing processes and manage cash collection
Cash & Working Capital Management
- Maintain strict cash controls and oversight of working capital
- Prepare and manage weekly project cashflow forecasts for group submission
- Act as a key liaison with local banking providers
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure adherence to group financial controls, processes, and policies
- Manage and ensure compliance with Brazilian tax regulations, including withholding and import duties
- Work closely with local professional advisors to address legal, tax, and regulatory requirements
Shared Services & Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Liaise with international shared service centres to ensure efficient financial operations
- Support cost coding, allocation, approvals, and financial data accuracy
- Assist with supplier onboarding in coordination with shared service teams
Payroll & HR Support
- Support preparation and execution of local payroll
- Collaborate with HR and professional advisors on monthly payroll processes
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent)
- Fluent in both English and Portuguese (written and spoken)
- Proven experience in project accounting or working within project-led environments
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to interpret and manage contract terms
- Solid knowledge of Brazilian laws, tax rules, and business practices
- Experience operating in a multi-currency environment
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capability
- Experience with Workday is desirable
