UI/UX Designer & Data Visualization Expert
We are looking for a full-time, remote Mid UI/UX Designer & Data Visualization Expert with 4+ years of professional UI/UX design experience. The ideal candidate will have experience designing complex, data-dense digital products and will be comfortable owning the complete design process, from user research and initial concepts through high-fidelity design, validation, and production handoff.
In this role you will shape the user experience of Vivo, our client's flagship life sciences platform, designing web applications, interactive dashboards, reports, and data visualizations that help clinical trial research teams understand and act on complex scientific data. You will partner closely with software engineers, data scientists, customers, and other designers to make complex information intuitive, efficient, and visually compelling. You will also serve as a product design subject-matter expert, mentor less-experienced designers, and have real ownership with the support to keep deepening your craft.

Own design work ranging from small interface refinements to substantial new features, from initial research through validated and shipped experiencesCreate design systems, wireframes, and low-, medium-, and high-fidelity mockups in Figma for web applications, interactive dashboards, and static reportsDesign complex data visualizations that communicate scientific insights accurately and appropriately for different audiencesConduct user research, including stakeholder and end-user interviews, and develop user personas and journey maps where they inform the design processConduct desk research to inform UI/UX strategy, including assessments of competitors and adjacent applicationsCollaborate closely with engineers and data scientists to ensure front-end and back-end capabilities come together into intuitive user experiences while balancing design ambition with development scopeCreate and lead interactive demonstrations for user feedback and user acceptance testing, collecting, analyzing, and reporting on findingsAssist with application QA/QC and help triage and resolve customer-reported usability issuesAct as the product design subject-matter expert on internal teams and mentor less-experienced designersParticipate in design reviews and agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, stand-ups, demos, and retrospectivesCreate customer-ready documentation such as design documents, style guides, and user guidesTeach others through educational presentations in team and company venues
Required Experience
Excellent English verbal and written communication skills4+ years of professional UI/UX design experience working on an agile product teamFluency in Figma, including experience creating and maintaining component libraries and design systemsDemonstrated experience designing complex data visualizations, including interactive graphs, dense data plots, dashboards, and infographicsStrong human-centered design experience, including user research, usability testing, personas, scenarios, and incorporating user feedback into design iterationsStrong visual design skills with a keen eye for layout, color theory, typography, and the subtleties of visual communicationWorking knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript sufficient to collaborate effectively with engineers and ensure designs are implemented accuratelyExperience with broader product design tools, including prototyping, diagramming, Lucidchart, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar toolsExperience designing accessible, responsive experiences across different devices and screen sizesAbility to clearly communicate design concepts, rationale, and decisions to cross-functional partners including developers, data scientists, product managers, and customersCollaborative mindset, receptiveness to feedback, and commitment to continuous learning and improvementExperience in the life sciences and its terminologiesA portfolio demonstrating a range of UI/UX projects, with a strong focus on data visualization and complex digital products
Preferred Experience
BS or higher in a STEM or design-related field, or equivalent practical experienceSpecialization or professional experience in data visualization, scientific communication, or a scientific disciplineExperience with data visualization software and libraries such as Tableau, D3.js, or similar toolsExperience designing for regulated data environments such as HIPAA, GxP, or 21 CFR Part 11, or familiarity with clinical trial data standardsExperience designing interfaces for AI-assisted or agentic workflowsExperience leading or mentoring a design team and contributing to performance conversationsExperience within an agile scrum environment
